Fluorescent threads are special effect embroidery threads. Threads which are dyed in fluorescent pigments capture light in a special way. They reflect light and become very bright when there is a light source. However, once the light is taken away, they don’t emit anymore light. This is the main difference from glow-in-the-dark threads whereby the threads absorb ultra-violets light and emit them when in the dark. Most fluorescent threads are green to yellow due to its original colour. Although other colours are added, their fluorescent effects are not as apparent as they are dye variations of the original colour. The application of fluorescent threads are used mainly for safety reasons where the embroidery will attract attention when light shines on them. The cost of these threads are lower than glow-in-the-dark threads making it more affordable.
